Saturday May 2nd, 2009...Bryce Canyon

Good Morning!

The morning started off with Coffee and Scrambled Eggs. If I would have known the eggs would turn out so good, I would have brought more. The first night in the tent went great...we had a twin air mattress so there was 8 inches of air between us and the ground. It did rain overnight but we stayed dried in our fancy tent! It got really cold overnight--down in the 30's! We were prepared though--I was in 3 layers and we had 2 heavy blankets.

Our plan for the day was to hike the Fairyland Point trail.

It is considered one of the strenuous hikes at 8 miles with an elevation change of 2300 feet. The highlights on the trail are the China Wall, Tower Bridge and multiple hoodoos along the way. We ended up getting soaked on the trail. It rained really hard for about 30-45 minutes. We just put our rain coats on and continued on. It was really a beautiful way to start vacation!

Here are some pictures from along the way. You should be able to click on each one for a larger picture!

The picture on the left looked like rock was liquid and flowing at one time but then solidified.

I think this one looks like a Kitty Cat!

Here is Tower Bridge...

After we were done with the hike, we went back to camp and enjoyed a cold beer. We then went to the Visitor's Center and watched a video on Bryce Canyon. We decided to go and hike the Queen's Garden. We were able to see Utah Prairie Dogs on the side of the road.

You really can't see them in the pictures...but trust me, they were CUTE!

So we headed to Sunrise Point to do the Queens Garden trail. It is an easy to moderate trail at 1.8 miles round trip. It started all down hill...so I knew the trip back up would be fun!

We had a visitor checking out our car!

Here are some views from the trail. Again...amazing hoodoos, amazing colors, just spectacular! Some of the rock formations have natural holes in them!

At the end of the trail there is a rock that is named Queen Victoria...

After that we went back to camp and had dinner. It was steak, mashed potatoes and veggies tonight with our Jamaican All Spice...why? because it spices all things!

After dinner we went and made some friends in the campground...and sat by his fire. Look at that log!! Jeremy was camping by himself--all his buddies backed out on him. The other guy was from Norway and currently working for Microsoft in Seattle...his wife was back at their camp sleeping.

me messing around!

Ending with a picture from us at Bryce! We hiked about 9 1/2 miles today total...so 10 1/2 total for the trip.
