Sunday morning we decided to go to Kolob Canyon since the Narrows were closed. Kolob Canyons is a seperate visitor's center in Zion National Park. There is an arch that you can hike to that is the second longest arch in the world. The Kolob Canyons visitor center is about an hour away from the campsite. We got up early and were on the way.
Here is our first view of Kolob Canyons--quite different than Zion Canyon.
The hike starts along Timber Creek which we crossed several times. It eventually follows La Verkin Creek Trail...La Verkin Creek is a year-round stream.

Before we knew it, we were there! It sure didn't seem like we had hiked over 6 miles...
Kolob Arch is the second largest and longest arch in the world at 287 feet...just 3 feet shy of the record. The arch lacks the pretty blue sky behind it...in fact, we had problems finding it!
When we were leaving, we realized someone carved into the sign "arch" with an arrow pointing up. We got a chuckle out of that...
We decided to sit down and cool our feet off in the creek. We found a nice shady spot with great views...relaxed for a while and were on our way.
We stopped by Oscar's for dinner in Springdale--it was awesome! I had the fish taco's which were outstanding.
Once we were back at camp, we had visitor's again. Tonight the deer were in the campground roaming in between the camp sites. There were 4 or 5 of them and they stayed for well over an hour. You can tell that they are use to humans...
We ended up hiking 14 miles today to the arch...and are at 84 miles for the trip.
